Terri Howard

Director of Human Resources

At BASF Canada we believe in the power of connected minds

At BASF, we embrace diversity and inclusion to create chemistry for a successful and sustainable future for all. Through our efforts to attract, develop and retain the best and most diverse team, we gain a broader range of new ideas and unique perspectives.

Promoting diversity is one of the mainstays of our corporate culture. The strong global character of our markets translates into different customer requirements. We want to reflect this diversity in our workforce, as well, in order to even better understand the needs of our customers. The aim is to increase our teams’ performance and power of innovation, and boost creativity, motivation and identification with the company.

Since 2015, BASF has set itself global quantitative goals for increasing the percentage of women in leadership positions. In the BASF Group, the global proportion of female leaders with disciplinary responsibility was 19.8% at the end of 2016 (2015: 19.5%). We aim to increase this figure to 22–24% worldwide by 2021, so that the proportion of women in leadership reflects that of women in the global company workforce.

In Canada our numbers are already close to the 2021 global goal at 21% of women occupying Management Roles.

We believe in the power of diversity and supporting our employees to balance their professional and personal lives. Our diversity is our strength.

Testimonials

Women at BASF Canada share their thoughts on why it is a great place to work
At BASF, there is a keen focus on attracting and retaining talent. BASF accordingly devotes much time and effort to ensuring that employees remain engaged, through development plans and discussions, and through ample development opportunities. There are also numerous active employee resource groups such as Women in Business and the Diversity + Inclusion Council, which provide employees with avenues for networking, relationship building and expanding leadership capacity.
Throughout my 10 years with BASF, I have developed my talent and skills in various positions, as well as through exciting projects that have stretched my learning and provided me with excellent networking opportunities within Canada and abroad. As a single parent of two, BASF’s flexible work arrangements and autonomy within my job have enabled me to give my all to the company while still maintaining a balanced life.
After spending most of my career with BASF in Europe, I decided to take an exciting opportunity with BASF in Canada. Now, here we are in the Greater Toronto Area with our two children and experiencing a whole new culture as a family. For me, the BASF family is all about people taking care of people – from colleagues to customers.
As an employee, it’s important to know that you are valued, respected and supported in the workplace. At BASF Canada, we have flexible work options that enable us to adapt to the needs of various life stages. Understanding that each of us brings diverse perspectives, experiences, and lifestyles, helps contribute to our unique identity and allows us to perform our best.
